A refrigerator opening can be the right width and still be wrong for the installation. Its door might hit the next handle. Its connection could be behind a fixed panel. Or the appliance may be a perfect fit until someone has to remove it for maintenance.
These are coordination issues. They are also avoidable buying issues as long as the final cabinet drawing is done after the appliance selection is done and not before.
Follow the work from arrival to clean up at a hypothetical drinks and grill station. Someone takes food outside, opens storage, cooks, feeds people and returns to storage with used equipment. Draw in those movements on the layout.
The exercise often exposes a missing surface or a route through somebody else's working space. It can also demonstrate that an attractive additional cabinet is the only logical place to collect the waste. The local designer will still need to figure out the necessary access and accessibility – the buyer's job is to let the designer know how the kitchen will be used.
Do this prior to selecting the module sequence. A catalogue arrangement is a helpful product example, but not an operating plan for all sites.
An exact model and destination-market version is required for the appliance schedule. A generic grill symbol is not enough to release the adjacent cabinets for production.
The opening, support, ventilation, clearance and connection requirements should be determined from the applicable appliance manual and should be adhered to by the responsible installer. Store the document revision with the schedule, so that everyone can see which model the cabinet drawing is based on.
Another review is required for a later substitution. Comparable overall dimensions are not indicative of similar installation requirements.
The cabinet supplier is familiar with its modules. The worktop specialist is familiar with its joints and cut-outs. The electrician or gas person is familiar with the proposed service layout. Things begin to go wrong when each one is given a different drawing revision.
One coordinator should gather their input and keep the released package. The sourcing coordinator may be included in that role but the documents don't remove the local design responsibility.
For each appliance, the drawing should make it possible to find three things: how it is supported, how its services are reached, and how it comes out again. Any issues regarding heat, enclosure, and ventilation should be directed to the appropriate specialists, and not to simply be resolved by shifting a line on the cabinet drawing.
The worktop should be treated in the same way. The arrangement of the module may be limited by its delivery size, support and cut-outs. A top that cannot pass through the site entrance remains a delivery problem even when the cabinets are small modules.
Door swings are easy to omit from a drawing. Include them with surrounding handles, corners and surrounding furniture. Think of a person who is holding a tray and another person who is opening the refrigerator.
An awkward pinch point can sometimes be detected with a taped floor plan or actual template. It is not a technical design, but it can prevent an awkward everyday arrangement from becoming the approved production drawing.
Check the unloading path. Any steps, gates or lifting restrictions should be part of the delivery discussion before final package dimensions are accepted.
Looks good may be approval of the appearance to the buyer and permission to manufacture to the supplier. Rather, call the stage by its name: concept accepted, appliance coordination incomplete, or final production release.
The released package should include the controlling drawing, finish selections, component schedule and exclusions. Subsequent changes must document subsequent impact on interfaces, cost and timing.
Pass the package to a co-worker who is not familiar with the project. Are they able to recognize the model of an appliance, the responsibility for the service, and the access panels and the production revision? If they require assistance in locating old messages, then the handover is not ready.
For a modular outdoor kitchen order, send the appliance schedule and marked-up drawing to Luvia Outdoor. Attachments of unresolved questions are helpful. They give the product discussion the opportunity to discuss the actual gaps before cabinet size becomes an order.
