Ten Years of Beautyhouse: What We Built Slowly, on Purpose

By Founder Lin · 2024-03-05

In 2014, Beautyhouse began in Linhai, China, with the unglamorous equipment of most small trading companies: a desk, a phone, a few supplier contacts and the stubborn belief that outdoor products deserved better sourcing than they were getting. This year marks ten years since then. Milestone posts usually list victories. I want to write down something harder to photograph: the things we chose to build slowly.

A network, not a warehouse

Early on we made a decision that shaped everything after: we would coordinate specialised manufacturing partners rather than pretending one factory could do every category well. The factory that welds a beautiful pergola frame is not necessarily the factory that stitches a durable canopy or casts a balanced umbrella base.

Building that partner network took years. It meant learning each partner's honest strengths, arguing over tolerances, and sometimes walking away from convenient capacity because quality coordination failed. What exists today, a network we coordinate from product development through to export and after-sales support, is the asset nobody sees in a catalogue. It is also the reason one buyer can source pergolas, umbrellas, add-ons and outdoor kitchens through a single accountable team.

Buyers in more than twenty countries, one conversation style

Over the decade our buyers spread across more than twenty countries: distributors and retailers, architects and designers, contractors and hospitality operators. What surprised me is how similar their best questions are. Everyone eventually asks about evidence: what is confirmed, what is tested, what is still open.

We trained ourselves to answer in that language. Our quotations say what they can confirm. Our product pages separate facts from items to verify. Some colleagues thought this candour would cost us orders. Ten years of repeat business suggests the opposite: it is the reason orders come back.

The Luvia Outdoor identity

The other quiet milestone of these years is the growth of Luvia Outdoor as the public face of what we do: a B2B outdoor product and supply-chain partner that treats a buyer's project brief as seriously as its own order book. The website you are reading this on is part of that maturing: product information with evidence levels, planning guides written by the people who actually answer the enquiries, and an enquiry flow built around real project context rather than a bare contact form.

What I would tell the 2014 version of myself

Do not rush the boring parts. The sampling routines, the inspection records, the loading plans, the honest "to confirm" notes: they compound. Markets will boom and crash around you, freight will quadruple and fall back, and the buyers who stay will be the ones who felt handled, not sold.

If your company is planning outdoor projects or range building and you want to know what a decade of that handling looks like in practice, read our capabilities overview or our full story. And if you would rather ask me directly, write to yoyo@beautyhouses.net.

Practical takeaway

Choose partners who have been through full market cycles. Ten years in this trade is less about age than about what a company built while the market changed around it.
